Feralcat is an artist, saxophonist, composer, alias and conceptual departure from what you think about when you hear the saxophone. Created as the debut project by Pittsburgh-based saxophonist Roger Rafael Romero, Feralcat uses sweeping lyrical melodies over heavy guitar-driven rhythms to orchestrate a sound that you can feel, and feel deeply. These songs are meant to break barriers and melt faces, with improvised saxophone music that you can bump and mosh to.
Feralcat has performed as a feature for artists such as Sorority Noise, Afro Yaqui Music Collective, Beauty Slap, and NPR Slingshot 2020 artist Sierra Sellers, in addition to performing with his own band. Notable performances include The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts with Afro Yaqui Music Collective and at Pittsburgh’s Official New Years Eve event, Light Up Night, with his own band. His band is also performing an official SXSW showcase in Austin, TX in March 2020. His music has over 100k streams on Spotify and is featured on several prog rock playlists. When he's not freelancing or teaching, he spends his time writing new songs for his upcoming first full-length LP.

“A surreal, genre-busting mash-up that we couldn't get out of our heads for days.”
“Romero created a riveting and piercing rock EP, starring a saxophonist.”
“Working the crowd through an energetic live performance on his iconic saxophone, Roger Rafael Romero, who performs under the name Feralcat, is not your everyday jazz musician.”
“The music is a unique blend of jazz fusion and prog rock that will take you away to another land with pivoting musical directions that create journey through song. Soaring instrumental melodies contrast with heavy guitar rhythms to bring together tones of darkness and light, depth and playfulness. ”
